Several Easy Ways to Unclog Drains

The Bent Wire Hanger- This is a rather simple method, just straighten out a wire hanger and do the best you can to unclog the drain using a circular motion.

Baking Soda and Vinegar- Mix 1/3rd of a cup of baking soda with 1/3rd of a cup of vinegar in a measuring cup. It will fizz immediately, and you should waste no time pouring it down the clogged drain. The volatile nature of the chemicals will clean the drain well.

The Wet & Dry Vacuum- This device is a lot like what it sounds like. It must be set to “wet” function to work in this application. Create the tightest seal around the drain that you can and do your best.

Boiling Water- Boiling water can be used to unclog a drain. Just allow the water to heat up (at my house it seems to take forever to heat up) then let it fall down the drain.

Caustic Soda- This ones best left to the pros (due to the potential harm it may cause); Made up of Sodium Hydroxide, this chemical does a good job at unclogging the drains, doing high-level damage to the hair, grime, oil, etc.

Cleaning the Pipe Itself-Â This is another job best suited for a plumber Virginia Beach. Using a variety of chemical and mechanical procedures, the plumber will clean the drain, then use a bucket to collect the water gathered at the U-trap.

The Drain Snake- A device that goes inside the drain to unclog the debris. It was designed to clean the drain by using many bristles.

Salt and Baking Soda- Baking soda is used with salt to unclog even the toughest of grease, grime, and other debris.

Dish Detergent- Simply using the soap right under your sink can help with clearing debris. It’s easy to use (I’m guessing you know how to use dishsoap?).

Baking Soda, Vinegar, Gravity and Pressure- This is another complicated method that even this author doesn’t fully understand. It uses baking soda, vinegar, gravity and pressure to clean the drain.
