When you find yourself with a plumbing issue and decide to DIY, you may save a few dollars, but you put yourself in the position to make a big mess or cause a bigger problem. This has happened more than once on television or in the movies. Take a look at part two of our guide to “Plumbing Fails from Movies and TV” and find out some do it yourself don’ts!
- Low Flow Showerhead – In the popular 90’s sitcom Seinfeld, it was not unusual to cover mundane topics—one of which was low-flow showerheads. Jerry and Kramer’s apartment complex installed low flow showerheads to reduce the water use in the building. When the men couldn’t get their hair to feel clean, they wound up sourcing some black market showerheads from Yugoslavia and later faced regrets.
- Waterworks – One time a television DIY project went bad was on the 80’s program The Cosby Show. Cliff Huxtable, played by Bill Cosby, began by trying to replace one tile in his bathroom and soon wound up with a full bathroom remodel—and a very angry wife!
- Along Came Polly – If you caught this comedy, you probably remember the bathroom scene all too well. Ben Stiller finds himself lacking toilet paper and decides to flush a hand towel down the toilet—leading to a clog so severe that the entire bathroom floods. This is one plumbing problem where calling an expert for proper toilet repair is going to certainly be a necessity.
- The Toilet Troll – One thing you can hope you’ll never have to deal with is a toilet troll like in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone! However, a more likely possibility is that you may find a frog, turtle, snake or small lizard. If this winds up clogging your toilet, you may need to work with a professional to get the help you need.
- The Family Plumbing – Fran Dresher starred in the 90’s sitcom “The Nanny.” In one episode, she convinced her boss to hire her uncle to fix some plumbing issues around the house and one disaster after another occurred. This may be a lesson in NOT working with relatives.
